Mr. Maruna is responsible for all aspects of BAG's aircraft sales business unit. He has over 35 years of experience in complex domestic and international aircraft sales transactions.
In 1970, after several years of piloting his own aircraft to and from job sites while serving as vice president of a large commercial/industrial building contractor, Mr. Maruna saw great opportunities emerging for aircraft broker/dealers. He founded The Airplane Companies and began buying and selling light twin-engine aircraft. The Airplane Companies quickly moved into the acquisition and sales of turboprop and jet aircraft.
Under Mr. Maruna's leadership, The Airplane Companies became a new aircraft dealer for Rockwell International's Aero Commander family of aircraft. The Aero Commander product line was acquired by Gulfstream in 1979. Mr. Maruna remained a Gulfstream Commander new aircraft dealership until the cessation of production in 1985.
Over the years, Mr. Maruna developed strong relationships with various flight departments throughout the USA, becoming the major provider of new aircraft and aircraft sales services for companies such as Parker Hannifin and Reliance Electric. Mr. Maruna has also completed a number of complex international transactions. For example, he sold a Gulfstream IV formerly owned by the Sahara Casino to the World Bank and Trust of China. Also, working on behalf of MTD Products and BAG, he arranged the acquisition and importation of their Cessna Citation V Ultra - an aircraft that was owned by the Daimler Corporation and operated in South Africa.
Mr. Maruna also has significant experience in other aspects of business aviation. For example, in 1982, he obtained approval for ' and built ' a Fixed Base Operation (FBO) facility at Burke Lakefront Airport in Cleveland, Ohio. This was the first FBO to be constructed at Burke Lakefront in 21 years. The facility opened in 1983 and Mr. Maruna served as its president for 13 years, before selling his interest to Mike Hoyle; current president of BAG. After 31 years as president of his own aviation business, Mr. Maruna joined BAG in 2001 to head up its aircraft sales operations. In addition Mr. Maruna has recently completed several EMB 120 Brasilia aircraft sales internationally.
In addition to his duties with Business Aircraft Group, Mr. Maruna was the chairman of the marketing committee of the National Aircraft Resellers Association (NARA). NARA is an elite organization of aircraft sales professionals. Membership is on an invitation-only basis. Its members handle approximately one-fifth of all sales of pre-owed aircraft in the US.
